Charity Healthcheck packages

Steve’s Charity or Not-For-Profit Healthchecks provide a fixed price strategic overview of your organisation. They may be used by Chief Executives to prepare for a forthcoming audit or give independent assurance to Trustees/Directors. Or by any not-for-profit leader seeking an external perspective on their strategy, governance and finance.

Gold Charity Healthcheck 

Recommended for “larger” charities with a turnover of £500,000 or more, as defined in the Statement of Recommended Practice.

Format

  • Desktop review of key documents
  • Up to 4 days on-site, meeting and talking to key staff and stakeholders
  • A detailed written report with recommendations
  • Report presentation and discussion

Items to be covered include

  • Strategic governance and decision-making, including:
    • Review of Articles of Association, Code of Governance (or equivalent), Committee Terms of Reference, and Scheme of Delegation – and how they are implemented in practice;Review of agendas, reports, and minutes of Board meetings, with an emphasis on the strategic focus of the agenda, discussions, and decisions;
    • Board/SMT relationship.
  • Strategy development, implementation, and resource allocation
    • Current strategy;Business plan and budget to deliver that strategy;Staffing structure;
    • Strategic risk assessment and risk management.
  • Financial review, including:
    • Income and expenditure, balance sheet, and cashflow;
    • Current income sources and income security;
    • Current expenditure and cost allocations;
    • Service costing and pricing;
    • Strategy to fund core costs;
    • Income generation pipeline;
    • Reserves policy;
    • Long-term funding aspirations and requirements;
    • Opportunities to consider new and additional funding sources.
  • Optional external stakeholder perspective to seek funder/ commissioner views of the organisation.

Silver Charity Healthcheck 

Recommended for “smaller” charities with a turnover of under £500,000, as defined in the Statement of Recommended Practice.

  • A detailed written report with recommendations
  • Report presentation and discussion.
